Argentina’s government says it will continue to work with local organisations to combat Huanglongbing (HLB), also known as citrus greening, in Entre Ríos Province, one of the country’s main citrus production areas.

Agriculture secretary Raúl Boc-Hó met recently with representatives from the Entre Ríos Citrus Federation (Fecier) and the Northeast Argentine Citrus Exporters Chamber (Cecnea) to renew a provincial programme of activities that include fruit fly control measures as well as transportation and worker guidelines to limit the disease’s spread.

“For the Government of Entre Ríos, plant health is a strategic policy because it is directly linked to development, employment, and the strengthening of our regional economies,” he commented.

“The fight against HLB requires coordinated and ongoing work, which is why we are moving forward with sector entities in planning actions to strengthen prevention and protect an activity that is fundamental to the province.”

He also highlighted the importance of producers and institutions taking an active role in prevention measures.

Currently, the programme employs a team of monitors who travel through the areas of Federación Norte, Federación Sur, and Concordia, conducting health inspections, collecting samples, disseminating information on symptoms, and training producers, in compliance with regulations established by national plant health body Senasa.
