New variety combines multi-gene intermediate resistance to ToBRFV with flexible production and harvesting options for greenhouse growers

De Ruiter, a vegetable seed brand of Bayer, has introduced Solstic, its first Roma tomato variety to feature multi-gene intermediate resistance to Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV.) Designed for high-tech greenhouse production, Solstic offers growers a combination of a robust disease resistance package, harvest flexibility and consistent fruit quality.
Further strengthening De Ruiter’s already well-established tomato portfolio, inclusive of beef and tomatoes-on-the-vine (TOV) offerings, Solstic (previously trialled under pre-commercial designation DRTJ4101), supports lit and unlit production cycles and loose or truss harvesting.
The new variety combines intermediate resistance to Powdery mildew with strong plant vigour and consistent fruit setting to support reliable yield potential. Solstic also produces uniform, oval-shaped red fruit averaging 90 to 110 grams and has demonstrated low susceptibility to blossom end rot. Together, these characteristics help growers navigate production challenges while maintaining consistent fruit quality.
“Solstic expands our tomato portfolio with a variety designed to give greenhouse growers great flexibility without compromising fruit quality,” said Stephanie Poletti, a marketing manager for De Ruiter. “From its robust disease-resistance package to consistent fruit setting and harvest versatility as a loose or truss variety, Solstic reflects our commitment to developing innovative solutions that support growers throughout the production process, but also the marketplace.”

De Ruiter demonstration houses in Leamington, Canada, or the Netherlands are hosting private appointments for growers interested in seeing Solstic firsthand.
“These visits provide an opportunity to evaluate Solstic alongside other varieties in the De Ruiter tomato portfolio and connect with the company’s team,” the company said.
