UK berry supplierDriscoll's has announced the arrival of the first glasshouse strawberries of the season from its Benelux growers, according to a company statement.
The trademarked variety, Driscoll’s Lusa, is a relatively early starter that continues to bear fruit until the beginning of July, without the steep production peaks that can make growers dependent on a single production period.
Since the high-yielding variety requires no extra lighting, energy use is therefore reduced, as is the environmental footprint. In addition, a low percentage of class 2 fruit is produced.
'Growing Driscoll's Lusa in glasshouses is another example of how Driscoll's is continuously innovating in the berry category,' the company stated.
