Expolink says the Egyptian pavilion in Madrid will serve to showcase the country’s strategic location as a sourcing partner, as well as the broad range of fruit and vegetables exported
The Egyptian Exporters Association (EEA) plans to highlight the diversity of Egyptian fresh produce as well as the country’s strategic location as a sourcing partner at next month’s Fruit Attraction exhibition in Madrid.
Known as Expolink, the EEA is a non-profit private sector association created to support Egyptian exporters, including through the organisation of the Egyptian pavilion in Hall 2 in Madrid.
“Expolink is organising the Egyptian pavilion at the Fruit Attraction exhibition, hosting large Egyptian producers and exporters displaying the highest quality and finest fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as the packaging materials to explore and penetrate new opportunity markets,” it stated.
In addition, Expolink hopes to showcase Egypt’s strategic location as a leading source in the global fresh produce scene and demonstrate the diversity of produce from the country.
“Egypt’s agricultural sector is a vital pillar of the economy, employing millions and contributing significantly to the country’s exports,” Expolink said. “Among its key products are a variety of fruits and vegetables, prized for their quality and freshness.
“The sector has seen significant growth in recent years, with increased production and diversification. Egyptian fruits and vegetables are exported to various countries worldwide, with the Gulf region, the EU and Russia being the top destinations. These markets value Egyptian produce for its competitive prices, favourable growing conditions and consistent quality.”
Agricultural exports of fresh produce rose by 1m tonnes in 2023 to reach a record 7.4m tonnes, generating US$3.7bn. 406 agricultural products were exported from Egypt to 160 markets, an increase of 93 destinations on the previous year, as 2m tonnes of citrus, 950,000 tonnes of potatoes and 412,000 tonnes of onions were exported.
In addition to the above, major agricultural exports include grapes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, strawberries, guava, garlic, mango, watermelon and pomegranates. Egypt is been the biggest exporter of oranges and the third largest in strawberries since 2020.
According to Expolink, the Egyptian government is taking steps to address logistical challenges by investing in the development of infrastructure, promoting cold chain logistics and facilitating market access.
“There is no doubt that Egypt has a unique strategic location that qualifies it to be a global centre for trade and logistics services,” it said. “The Egyptian government developed a comprehensive strategy to transform the country into a centre for international trade and logistics, to be a global trade hub that is connecting Asia, Africa and Europe.”
