Some 54 per cent of imported fruits and vegetables arrived in Spain by road and 44 per cent by ship in 2025.

Fresh produce imports on the road came in at 3.1mn tonnes last year from the 5.7mn-tonne total, according to data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Spanish Tax Agency, processed by Fepex.

The second most used mode of transport for imports was shipping vessel, accounting for 2.5mn tonnes.

Air freight was used for 1.2 per cent of Spanish fruit and vegetable imports, or 66,828 tonnes, and rail for 0.05 per cent, coming in at 3,365 tonnes, Fepex reported.

The volumes mentioned correspond to Spanish imports of all tariff chapters 07 and 08, which cover fresh fruits and vegetables, some processed fruits, legumes, and nuts.

Fepex has released a number of reports on Spain’s fresh produce business in 2025, covering the country’s exports, fruit and vegetable imports, logistics statistics and trade with Mercosur countries.
