Three leading players in the international berry business joined forces at Fruit Attraction in Madrid to present Berry Business Week 2027, a new initiative designed to bring together the global berry industry for four days of market insight, innovation, technical expertise and networking.

Representatives of Fruitnet, Planasa, and Fall Creek Farm & Nursery came together at the international fresh produce trade fair to introduce the initiative to the wider industry and highlight the opportunities it creates for berry buyers, suppliers, and other stakeholders worldwide.

The joint presentation featured Mike Knowles, managing director of Fruitnet Europe; Hans Liekens, global director of marketing and innovation at Planasa; and Paul Nselel, chief commercial officer at Fall Creek.

First announced in September, Berry Business Week takes place in southern Spain from 15-18 March 2027, and combes three established international events into a single coordinated programme for the first time.

By aligning their respective activities, the three organisations aim to make it easier for berry industry professionals from around the world to gain access to the latest commercial insights, breeding developments, and varietal innovations during a single trip.

The programme comprises three complementary events:

Fruitnet Berry Congress
15-16 March – Barceló Punta Umbría Beach Resort, Huelva
Preceded and accompanied by extensive networking opportunities, the congress offers high-level conference sessions, market analysis, and industry debate which examine the trends, challenges and opportunities shaping the global berry category.

Planasa Meet & Greet
17 March – Planasa R&D Centre, Cartaya, Huelva
An opportunity to explore the company’s breeding programmes, discover new berry varieties and gain first-hand insight into the latest developments in berry genetics and production.

Fall Creek Global Field + Forum
18 March – Fall Creek R&D Centre, Villamanrique de la Condesa, near Seville
A programme of field visits, varietal discovery, technical discussion and networking, giving visitors the chance to see and taste new blueberry selections and explore innovations in berry production.

Together, the three events offer an opportunity to connect the commercial and technical sides of the berry business, bringing market intelligence and strategic discussion together with practical demonstrations of advanced genetics and production techniques.

Berry Business Week is aimed at growers, breeders, retailers, category managers, marketers, exporters and other berry industry professionals who seek to understand how changing consumer expectations, new varieties, technological innovation, and evolving supply chains are influencing supply chain and market development.

The joint presentation at Fruit Attraction marks an important step in promoting Berry Business Week to an international audience, underlining the shared commitment of Fruitnet, Planasa and Fall Creek to greater collaboration across the berry value chain.

It also reflects the growing importance of southern Spain as a centre for berry production, research and innovation, one that provids an ideal setting for a week that combines commercial discussions with first-hand access to leading breeding and development programmes.
