Strawberry growers in Huelva will attempt to extend the 2025/26 season to partially offset the losses caused by recent storms, which slashed production by around 50 per cent.

As reported in Europa Press, the Price and Market Observatory of the Regional Government of Andalusia stated that in a normal season, around 20 per cent of the total seasonal production volume would have been harvested by this point. However, it said that this season would be markedly different.

The observatory noted that improved weather is benefiting the region’s berry production. As the first shipments of Spanish strawberries started arriving in the German market prices were well above those seen at the same point last season.

The report also noted that the cessation of rains and lifting of temperatures in the last week had boosted production volume and significantly improved the quality of all berries.

From the beginning of the season through to week six, cumulative sales volumes were estimated to be 38 per cent lower for strawberries and 35 per cent lower for raspberries compared to those recorded in the 2024/25 season.
