The €20mn facility will help consolidate the company’s position as a European leader in this product

Ready-to-eat vegetable specialist Huercasa is building what will be Europe’s largest sweetcorn on the cob factory in Sanchonuño, Segovia. The €20mn facility is due to be completed in 2027 and will consolidate the company’s position as European leader in this sector.

Huercasa said the move would strengthen its supply chain, increasing production and opening up opportunities to serve new customers, while reinforcing its commitment to year-round service. The company plans to prioritise locally sourced, domestic produce, reinforcing its commitment to quality, food safety, and sustainability.

Separately, Huercasa continues to make progress on its project in Romania, where it operates a manufacturing plant primarily dedicated to sugar beets supplying customers in Central and Eastern Europe. It is also moving forwards with its 100 per cent plant-based protein range of fresh legumes – beans, chickpeas and lentils steamed without preservatives or additives packed in a new, compact, and sustainable liquid-free thermoformed package to optimise logistics.

“These fresh legumes are a novel concept, a new way to enjoy legumes, prepared with all their flavour and nutrients, perfect for salads, soups, or hummus, without the need to wash or drain them. They can also be conveniently used in all kinds of traditional stews,” the company said.

Huercasa will be at Fruit Logistica to share all its new developments with customers in Hall 25.
