Driscolls Lusa strawberry

Haygrove, a Berry Gardens’ grower in Herefordshire, UK has become the first farm this season to deliver a homegrown crop of Driscoll’s Lusa strawberries to British supermarkets.

Grown in glasshouses, the variety is described as an “attractive and even sized strawberry with a fresh sweet flavour and light red colour”.

Its fresh appearance and high quality is said to be particularly appealing to consumers and as a result, it tends to perform well commercially.

Production of Lusa begins early compared with traditional varieties such as Elsanta, in mid-March, and is expected to last until late June, without any notably steep production peaks.

James Waltham from Haygrove said: “Being able to grow strawberries under glass has some major advantages. We are able to control the environment to ensure we have juicy, ripe strawberries and bring them to market much earlier in the season than normal.”

The strawberries are now available in stores with the variety labeled as Driscoll’s Lusa.
