The EU accounted for 81 per cent of Spain’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in January and February
The EU market took on 81 per cent of Spain’s fresh produce exports in January and February of this year, according to data from the Department of Customs and Excise, processed by Fepex.
In value terms, that meant some €3.015bn of fruit and vegetables sent to the EU, wth exports to other countries coming in at €724mn.
Spanish exports to the EU grew by 10 per cent overall compared with the same period last year.
Increases were recorded in the country’s main export markets, Fepex noted.
Germany saw a 12 per cent jump to €1.117bn; France a 9 per cent increase, coming in at €567mn; and the Netherlands a 7 per cent increase to €332mn.
Exports outside the EU in the first two months of 2025 increased by 7 per cent year-on-year.
The UK was the largest non-EU market and third in absolute terms, with €496mn of imports, a 7 per cent increase.
In terms of volume, EU exports totalled 1.9mn tonnes, 83 per cent of the total and 2 per cent more than in the same period of 2024.
Exports outside the EU reached 405,644 tonnes, 17 per cent of the total and growth of 4 per cent.
