The Co-op has become the latest retailer to launch a meal range aimed at the rising number of consumers using weight loss medication and experiencing loss of appetite as a result.

The new ‘Good Fuel’ range of four new ‘mini meals’, which roll out tomorrow (7 January), have been specifically developed for those with smaller appetites.

It follows data generated from the IGD last summer which found three per cent of the UK population is now using a form of weight loss medication, under brand names including Ozempic or Wegovy.

Each meal is high in protein, fibre and at least one veg portion out of the recommended five-a-day, with flavours inspired by global cuisines. Priced at £3.50 each, meals include Butternut Squash, Beans and Grains 250g, Chicken & Sweet Potato Penang Curry 250g, Chicken & Courgette Alfredo Pasta 250g and Butternut Squash, Beans & Grains 250g.

“Our members and customers are changing the way they approach health, looking for healthy and tasty choices that provide a boost of health benefits like protein and fibre, with meals that count towards their five-a-day as well as delivering plenty of flavour,” said Co-op retail trading director, Nicole Tallant.

“There is also a growing need to cater for smaller appetites with meals that provide the quality without so much of the quantity,” she added.

Co-op’s new range also includes a  ‘power up your plate’ healthy option, which includes a choice of five full-sized meals featuring high-protein, slow-releasing carbohydrates, and added-benefit ingredients such as gut-friendly fibres, and nutrient-dense vegetables.
