The seven-tonne capacity farm is set to open under new partnership between mushroom producer Urban Farm-It and logistics provider Oakland International
Mushroom producer Urban Farm-It has opened a new cutting-edge site with logistics specialists Oakland International in a bid to combine farming, operations and environmental sustainability.
The farm is based at Oakland’s Redditch site and features a 190-square-metre fruiting room with a seven-tonne capacity.
It has bespoke lighting and front-of-line AEM climate control technology, fully integrated within Oakland’s packhouse.
With Red Tractor and Soil Association Organic certifications, the site also boasts advanced environmental waste systems, including plastic recycling and anaerobic digestion of spent substrate.
The news comes as the two firms announced a partnership this week, which they said would see new innovations such as home-growing mushroom kits brought to market and expand production of gourmet mushrooms, including Lion’s Mane.
“Our partnership with Urban Farm-It brings an innovative mushroom farm to our Redditch site, supporting our goal to reduce food miles and build a more sustainable supply chain,” said Luke Attwell, COO of Urban Farm Produce.
“By growing fresh produce directly at our facility, we’re cutting emissions, improving freshness, and showing what’s possible when logistics and farming come together in the same space.”
CEO of Urban Farm-It, Elliot Webb, added: “Urban Farm-It is thrilled to partner with industry leaders Oakland International. Together, we bring the best bits of both our industries in a new look business that aims to change the food production and service game forever
