Hapag-Lloyd

Two major shipping lines have recently announced increased rates on some services linking the Indian sub-continent with Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

German carrier Hapag-Lloyd has announced a general rate increase for cargo moving from Asia to the Indian sub-continent and the Persian Gulf.

The US$100 per 20-ft container increase in shipments to the Indian sub-continent would not, however, include cargo from Japan. The increase will be effective as of 15 February.

Shipments to the Persian Gulf would incur a US$150 per 20-ft container increase, effective as of 1 March.

Meanwhile, Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) announced a US$220 per-TEU GRI on westbound trade from India and the Middle East to destinations in Northern Europe, effective as of 8 February.

According to the Journal of Commerce, similar price increases have been implemented by Maersk Line, Mediterranean Shipping and CSAV.
