Dole Fresh Vegetables has announced that it is voluntarily recalling 1,039 cases of 10oz Dole Italian Blend bagged salad due to a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes.

The product, which has a code of 0049N2202008 and a use-by date of 20 August, was distributed to eight US states including Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Mississippi and Virginia.

No illnesses have been associated with the recall, with the notification being issued due to an isolated instance in which a sample of the salad yielded a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes in a random sample test conducted by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.

'Although the product is two days past its use-by date and it is highly unlikely that any product is still available at retail, retailers should check their inventories and store shelves to confirm that none of the product is mistakenly present or available for purchase by consumers or in warehouse inventories,' Dole said in a statement. 'Dole Fresh Vegetables customer service representatives are already contacting retailers and are in the process of confirming that the recalled product is not in the stream of commerce.'
