An Argentinean delegation from the region of Tucumán is reportedly visiting industry representatives in Washington, the US, to formalise the final preparations for the re-opening of the US market to Argentinean lemons.
The group arrived Stateside on Monday, according to the Tucumán Citrus Association (ATC) to convince US political representatives and the USDA to advance trade negotiations which will allow Argentina to resume exports.
Senior figures from Argentina’s leading lemon exporters are among those currently visiting the US, including Alvaro Bulacio and Marco Dupont from Argenti Lemon, Lucas Fornaciari of Citromax, Fernando Seoane of San Miguel and Fernando Illing of Afinoa.
“The primary objective is to ensure that the US authorities publish the proposed phytosanitary protocol as soon as possible,” explained Mr Bulacio of Argenti Lemon.
If all goes to plan, Argentina could resume lemon exports to the US in 2009.
