Peru sweet onions

In the US, Onion, Carrot and berry supplier Curry & Company (C&C) has revealed the formation of an exclusive multi-year partnership with Suncrest Produce Solutions LLC of Lake Wales, Florida, to boost its sweet onion programme.

Suncrest, which is owned by 20-year industry veteran Jason Turner, is a large importer of Peruvian sweet onions, with the partnership allowing these imports to become a part of Curry & Company’s year-round vertically integrated sweet onion programme.

More than 200 containers of Peruvian Sweet Onions will be shipped this coming autumn and winter as part of the partnership, with
Curry & Company currently in the midst of tits Vidalia Sweet Onion programme with Walla Walla sweets to start in June. Vidalia onions started harvest mid-April and will be available through August.

Turner will assist Curry & Company with sales, marketing and production during the 2013 Vidalia onion season, and will then help transition to Peruvian sweets in the fall.

“I’ve worked with several members of the Curry & Company team, including recently named CFO/COO Michael Hively,' said Turner. 'Michael and I go back a long ways and have a relationship built on mutual respect and trust.

“Curry & Company is known for their high-quality sweet onions and I look forward to building on that reputation. Retailers are eager for consistently sweet onions, and we have the right onions year round for their customer bases,” he explained.

Curry & Company president Matt Curry added: “Our customers want sweet onions year round and this partnership with Suncrest Produce strengthens our existing sweet onion programme and will triple or even quadruple our Peruvian import volumes. Suncrest has been one of the leaders in Peruvian sweet onions, they have an excellent reputation, and our partnership will benefit retailers nationwide.”
