Red Anjou US Northwest pears

Northwest pear volumes from Oregon and Washington are expected to dip slightly this season, according to industry body Pear Bureau Northwest's latest forecast, which was presented at its annual meeting last.

Pear Bureau Northwest estimates that some 20.5m boxes of pears are expected to be harvested in the region this season, down 2 per cent on last season but up 2 per cent on the five-year average, Good Fruit Grower reported.

Kevin Moffitt, president of Pear Bureau Northwest, said that production had been 'stable and manageable' in recent years, with growers returns at good levels - something that should continue this campaign.
