Peakfresh USA, a manufacturer and distributor of modified atmosphere packaging products across North America, has announced that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is utilising its produce bags on its latest International Space Station (ISS) resupply mission via SpaceX CRS-14.
The launch successfully took place on Monday 2 April at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and will be delivering supplies and equipment to the ISS.
The Peakfresh bags being used by NASA are the same produce bags available in local markets nationwide and online US retailers.
Each bag measures 12” x 16” and is being used by NASA to store fruit and vegetables such as oranges, apples, carrots and tomatoes. Prior to launch, the produce was washed, air-dried, placed in Peakfresh bags and then stored in the capsule. Once arriving at the ISS, the produce will remain in Peakfresh bags until consumed by the astronauts.
