Brazilian mango exports to the US have soared above the seasonal estimates and last year’s shipments, despite a marked fall in shipments during mid-October, according to new figures from the US National Mango Board.
Shipments to the US during the week of 18 October dipped to around 250,000 cartons from just over 600,000 cartons a week before. However, during following week (25 October) exports increased rapidly to almost 1m cartons.
Although this week’s total is expected to be lower due to vessel delays, the Mango Board is forecasting that Brazil will export an estimated 5.5m cartons during the 2008/09 season.
Separately, Ecuador is expected to export approximately 6.8m cartons of mangoes to the US this season, according to a forecast from La Fundación Mango de Ecuador (FMDE).
Ecuador’s mango shipments started at the beginning of October and the campaign is predicted to end in January 2009, with peak season expected to take place in late November, early December.
