Packages of greenhouse-grown cocktail tomatoes, mini cucumbers and mini sweet peppers from Westmoreland Sales' in Canada are set to feature a range of popular Nickelodeon cartoon characters as part of a promotion aimed at children.

According to The Packer, group sales manager Dino Dilaudo reported that the group was finalising plans with Nickelodeon/Viacom Consumer Products this month.

Characters that will be used as part of the promotion include SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and Diego of 'Go, Diego, Go!', appearing on packaging when the group begins shipping from Ontario in April.

Mr Dilaudo told the publication that the choice of produce had been important, with smaller-sized products likely to be more effective when marketing to children.

'Say you're going to put the Nickelodeon character on beefsteak tomatoes. We feel that's an item we don't really think the characters would be effective on,' he said.
