In anticipation of the upcoming summer season, Imagination Farms is adding two new suppliers, SGS and Dayka & Hackett LLC, to its US-based Disney Garden program. Under the deal, the duo will offer stonefruit and table grapes supported by new promotions and Disney Garden-branded packaging.

“During the past three seasons we have experienced incremental growth in our stonefruit program,” said Don Goodwin, COO of Imagination Farms, in a press statement. “The addition of SGS and Dayka & Hackett as new suppliers to the Disney Garden program will allow us to increase our sales reach and touch more consumers, complementing our mission to increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables among children.”

In 2006, The Walt Disney Company introduced nutritious food guidelines limiting the use of the Disney name and its characters to only those kid-focused products that meet specific limits on calories, fat, saturated fat and sugar. The Disney Garden product line is part of Disney’s extensive food portfolio which today offers nutritious options in key meal categories including fresh produce, bread, pasta, dairy and baked goods.

“We are pleased to offer additional Disney Garden fresh fruit options for parents looking for healthier snacks this summer,” said Lance Gatewood, vice-president of Food, Health & Beauty for Disney Consumer Products North America. “Imagination Farms and our suppliers provide a great selection to consumers nationwide.”

Tim Dayka, Managing Member at Dayka & Hackett LLC noted, “Our relationship with Imagination Farms and their program is exciting and supports our enthusiasm to touch new demographics with an age appropriate message. This is a great way to get more families excited about eating more fruit.”

Recent research supports that kids are important to the stonefruit category with Fresh Trends 2009 reporting that households with kids have an average 10 per cent higher purchase incidence for stonefruit (peaches, plums and nectarines) than households without kids.

Responding to this data, Louis Scattaglia, Partner at SGS remarked, “The Disney Garden program plays to the interest of the consumer with unique items like collectible PLU stickers and the My Size Mini tote program which packages fruit sized just for kids. This opportunity to work with Imagination Farms strengthens our position in the marketplace and give us more tools for success.”
