US group Burger King Corp. has finalised a licensing agreement with Crunch Pak to bring the group's fresh-cut BK Fresh Apple Fries to 10,000 supermarkets across the country later this year.

The product, which contains skinless red apples sliced to resemble real french fries, will be displayed in the fresh produce section of major supermarkets alongside other fresh-cut fruit and vegetables, according to CSP Daily News.

Crunch Pak's licensing agreement allows the retail leader in sliced and prepared apples to bring the product to a mass audience, just over a year after its initial introduction at Burger King restaurants.

A single serving of BK Fresh Apple Fries will retail for around US$1, with larger multipacks available for US$4-US$5 – although serving sizes have yet to be confirmed by the group.

'Our goal in developing BK Fresh Apple Fries was to create a menu item that satisfied parents' demands for nutrition and convenience and kids' appetites for great-tasting food,' said Burger King's senior vice-president for global marketing and innovation John Schaufelberger.

'The popularity of this clever product is now opening up new channels for our business and providing customers with a menu favourite in the places they shop most,' he added.
