The National Watermelon Promotion Board (NWPB) has announced in a press release the appointment of Juliemar Rosado to the newly created position of marketing/communications associate.

After reviewing over 100 resumes from across the country and conducting several intense one-on-one interviews, recruited Ms Rosado on the basis of her extensive background in marketing and communications and advertising agency experience

Ms Rosado is a 2003 graduate of the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Arts & Sciences degree in Interpersonal Communication from the Nicholson School of Communication.

She has worked for Florida Hospital, Link Agency and the Epcot Walt Disney World Resort. Ms Rosado is also the cofounder of Orlando Dance Enthusiasts and is Spanish bilingual.

The NWPB executive committee recently endorsed a reorganisation of its staff, following a “tremendous change” in the way its business is carried out, given the blurring of the lines between traditional marketing and communications.

“While traditional media is still very viable and important, social media has created a dynamic and challenging way to reach the varying and current end-users of our product. Without a strong social media component, the NWPB is at a competitive disadvantage,“ said NWPB Executive Director Mark Arney.

The NWPB said it has made great strides in social media with the Watermelon.org website and WhatAboutWatermelon.com blog, but added that the very nature of this dynamic field and the opportunities that exist necessitate stepping up this effort to stretch the resources available.

“The NWPB will continue to devote ourselves towards traditional media, but at the same time we will focus, design and implement a more results-orientated social media component,” explained Mr Arney.

“This `social media` platform will maximise value and efficiency, and it will drive an emphasis on ROI and measurable results that are tied in to strong monitoring of our social media activities.”

As a result, the NWPB has evaluated current staff positions and has implemented the following changes to reorganise its staff structure:

The position of Director of Communications has been eliminated and newly created positions and staff will fill these positions including:

Director of Marketing/Communications – Gordon Hunt
Director of PR and Social Media – Stephanie Simek
Industry Affairs Manager – Andrea Smith
Marketing/Communications Associate – Juliemar Rosado

Other staff positions remain the same, including Rebekah Dossett as the Director of Operations and Industry Affairs.
