Univeg Expofrut Argentina’s packhouse workers reportedly staged a protest late last week over a decision to close a Neuquén-based apple packing facility early.
According to a report by La Mañana Neuquén, operations at the Macial packhouse are coming to an end one month earlier than anticipated despite the availability of apple varieties still to process.
One of the protestors told the publication that the season usually runs until 15 April, and complained at having just 45 days of employment after waiting all year for the job.
As a result of the protest, workers were given five additional days of labour, the report said.
