The Port of Los Angeles moved 691,475 TEUs over the month of June (2020), a 9.6 per cent decrease compared to last year’s record-setting June.
June loaded imports decreased 6.8 per cent to 369,189 TEUs compared to the previous year, while loaded exports dropped 21.3 per cent to 109,586 TEUs. Empty containers declined 7.2 per cent to 212,701 TEUs.
Six months into 2020, overall cargo volumes at the US port have decreased 17.1 per cent compared to the same point in 2019.
“Given the circumstances of an unresolved trade war and an ongoing pandemic, our June and mid-year cargo volumes are in line with our forecasting,” said Port of Los Angeles executive director Gene Seroka.
“Our focus now is on enhancing the port’s competitiveness with infrastructure, technology and operational efficiencies as we help get Americans back to work and drive economic recovery.”
