Rijk Zwaan Leafy Event

Dutch vegetable seed group Rijk Zwaan held its first Leafy Event this month, the successor to its Salanova Days events that saw business partners travel from across the globe to discuss the future of leafy crops.

According to the group, some 250 players from 34 different countries came together to discuss the cultivation, processing and sales of a variety of salad products, including Salanova, spinach, endive, babyleaf and other products.

Several international leaders spoke at the congress segment of the event, including Japanese professor Hideo Ikeda, who discussed the emergence of modern plant factories, and Dutch futurologist Adjiedj, who presented on the future of food production.

Meanwhile, the demonstration field in Fijnaart gave visitors the opportunity to view Rijk Zwaan's leafy offering in optimum surroundings, including innovative products and the leading commercial varieties.

"Since there is so much going on in the world of leafy vegetables at the moment, we can still learn a lot from one another by sharing knowledge internationally," said Rijk Zwaan's marketing manager Auke Ferwerda. "The past two days provided an effective platform for doing so. For both Rijk Zwaan and our partners, the Leafy Event has been the source of considerable inspiration."
