Genesis Fresh raspberries Poland

The fresh raspberry season is underway in Poland, with producer-shipper Genesis Fresh reporting on favourable conditions for the development of the 2012 crop.

According to the group, raspberries have not been impacted by the extreme cold weather seen earlier in the year that hit strawberry production, with growing conditions for raspberries reported to be good.

The season runs through until week 39, with varieties on offer including the likes of Glen Ample, Polanana and Polka, with all fruit GlobalGAP and BRC certified.

According to the group's Jan Nowakowski, prices for the fruit are more competitive than those offered by Belgian or Dutch producers.

Raspberry volumes has risen in the past five years, increasing from 65,000 tonnes off of 17,500ha of growing area in 2005 to 84,000 tonnes from 20,500ha last year.
