Spanish fresh produce exporter association Fepex has revealed that exports of Spanish strawberries rose by 10 per cent during the 2008 season to a total of 211,706 tonnes in comparison to last year.
During the peak months of March, April and May, Spain supplied some 56,759 tonnes, 59,581 tonnes and 54,954 tonnes of the fruit respectively, according to figures published by Fepex.
The lion’s share of the volumes was destined for France, which accounted for 68,978 tonnes of export crop.
Germany also received some 58,871 tonnes of strawberries from Spain during the 2008 season, while Italy represented 23,032 tonnes of the total volume.
