Fruidor, the number one ripening network in France, which has been owned by UGPBAN (the union for banana producer groups in Guadeloupe and Martinique) since the end of 2008, has announced the acquisition of Gourgues, based in Birac-sur-Trec in the department of Lot-et-Garonne.

The move will strengthen the position of Fruidor Terroirs, Fruidor's fruit and vegetable section, of which Gourgues is already a partner. It fits the company's strategy of increasing its presence in different French regions to allow it to supply its customerrs with high-quality produce.

The purchase increases the group's volume to 100,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables a year, excluding bananas, and gives it a turnover of €70m.

For Gourgues, the deal offers an opportunity to further develop its presence on the market for early potatoes, as well as for later potatoes and other fruit and vegetables grown in Lot-et-Garonne.
