Agromediterranea

Murcia’s Agromediterránea posted sales of €85.7m in 2015, an increase of 42.3 per cent on the previous year. Its sales volumes rose by 54.8 per cent to 114,500 tonnes.

The company said the solid performance was down to the rapid expansion of its export business and strong demand from its main Spanish customer Mercadona.

The vegetable and salads marketer introduced several new product lines last year, including basil, chives, chard, kale, pak choi and leeks.

In 2015 the company sold 47m little gems, 45m icebergs, 43m romaine lettuces, 11,000 tonnes of broccoli and 15,000 tonnes of courgettes.

Two years ago the company – one of Mercadona’s so-called super suppliers – moved into the export market. Today it ships to more than 20 countries and its overseas business accounts for 20 per cent of its total sales.

The company has over 5,000ha of production and employs 1,326 workers.
