Netherlands-based logistics service provider Kloosterboer has this week been presented with the Lean & Green Star award, recognising the company's efforts in cutting CO2 by 35 per cent over the past five years.
Connekt, the official organisation of the Lean & Green programme, presents the award to companies that have achieved a reduction of 20 per cent over a five-year period.
Kloosterboer implemented energy saving measures such as cooling installations and battery chargers, and the installation of a wind turbine to meet their own energy needs, all of which resulted in the reduction of 35 per cent.
Indeed, five years ago Kloosterboer was the first cold storage company to receive the Lean & Green Award.
“Achieving the Lean & Green Star award is a further milestone in the sustainable policy of Kloosterboer,' said Hans Kroes, CEO at Kloosterboer.
'We are proud of the result and we will keep on developing ourselves with regard to the people-planet-profit factors,' he added. 'We will try to achieve this by installing wind turbines, solar panels and new cold stores or extensions built according to BREAAM requirements. We also consider it to be important to actively involve our employees in the sustainability policy of our company.'
