Ever Green peppers

Agrexco’s product manager Avi Bar confirmed that exports of conventional peppers should reach 35,000 tonnes this season, with exports of organic peppers growing to 5,000 tonnes, an increase of 25 per cent compared with last year.

Currently, approximately 65 per cent of Agrexco’s peppers are red, with the rest split between orange and yellow varieties. However, this season the company intends to export a new, exclusive pepper variety called Ever Green.

This new variety is apparently sweeter than existing green varieties on the market and is extremely resilient to the challenges of seafreight.

According to Agrexco, the variety also has a long shelf-life and benefits from the fact that its colour does not alter with time, which is a common disadvantage of green peppers that are harvested too early before ripening.

Agrexco has recently signed contracts with all the leading retailers in western Europe, Mr Bar said, and is continuing its attempts to penetrate further into the markets of eastern Europe.
