Enza Cox apple

This year's New Zealand apple campaign in Europe is set to get underway at the start of next week with the arrival in Antwerp of the first chartered vessel, Hawk Bay, carrying 4,500 pallets of Enza-branded Cox and Royal Gala.

According to Belgium-based marketer Enzafruit, the season looks 'very promising', with some packers remarking on what they describe as the 'best quality seen in years'.

'Colder nights have brought up the colour fantastically and good rain has assisted in developing attractive apple sizes,' said a spokesperson for Enzafruit.

A second charter vessel carrying New Zealand apples is scheduled to arrive in Antwerp by 20 April.

Volumes of the trademarked variety Jazz, which are expected to exceed 1m cartons this season, are due to begin arriving in Europe alongside Enza-branded Braeburn on Enza's third charter vessel at the start of May.
