Dutch fresh produce supplier The Greenery has been recognised for its unique Residue Management System and collaborations with partners throughout the supply chain by picking up the first European Award for Cooperative Innovation in the Food Chain.

The prize was awarded to the group by Copa-Cogeca, Europe's umbrella organisation for agricultural and horticultural cooperatives, which called the Residue Management System an 'excellent example' of how European cooperatives an strengthen their competitive position through innovation, highlighting The Greenery's exemplary role and strategic importance.

'The Greenery is incredibly proud to have received this award,' said Arie van der Linden, director of quality and environment at the Greenery, as he accepted the award in Brussels. 'It's a recognition of the global efforts to produce the safest possible fruit and vegetables in collaboration with out partners.'

The award-winning Residue Management System operates with the group taking up to 4,500 analyses to determine residue levels in The Greenery's fruit and vegetables products. The results are then gathered in a unique mangement system containing over 20,000 results, allowing the group to set up projected targets for reducing the use of crop protection products,

According to The Greenery, there are now over 40 Food Chain Partnership projects involving collaborations with crop protection agent manufacturers and natural pest control suppliers.

This year marked the first presentation of the European Award for Cooperative Innovation by Copa-Cogerca, with the prize awarded bi-annually in recognition of achievements in the areas of food processes, non-food processes, environment, member services and food chain.
