Ahold Delhaize has launched the Healthy Future Academy, a new learning programme designed to equip associates with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to further integrate health and sustainability in their daily work.

The retailer explained that the e-learning programme consists of over 20 interactive, bite-sized lessons, taking learners on a journey from farm to plate, following key stages of Ahold Delhaize’s value chain.

Topics covered include climate change and planetary health, nature and biodiversity, circularity, supplier and peer partnerships, food waste and healthier customer choices.

”Function-specific modules and real-world case studies enable associates to turn learning into action,” it said.

According to the group, recent internal survey showed that 80 per cent of respondents consider it important for their job satisfaction that the company takes action to address sustainability challenges.

Ahold Delhaize sad that while health and sustainability have long been embedded in the broader business strategy and financial planning, associates expressed a desire for more knowledge and practical tools to translate the company’s commitments in their day-to-day work.

The programme is designed for all roles across functions and regions, enabling colleagues to develop their skills – whether they are working in sourcing, marketing, technology or finance.

“The Healthy Future Academy enables colleagues to learn how their role contributes to a collective ambition,” said Alex Holt, CSO at Ahold Delhaize.

”Together, we are better positioned to make healthier and more sustainable choices easy and affordable for everyone.

”What I am most looking forward to is seeing in what ways the learning will turn into actions, big and small, that drive tangible progress and create long-term value,” Holt commented.

Key features of the programme include a foundations course, function-specific modules, real-world inspiration and interactive and flexible lessons and sessions, the retailer added.
