Breeding specialist emphasises how seedless varieties are reshaping the category through consistency, convenience and reliable quality

Hazera has championed its ’Seedless is More’ approach to the watermelon category, which it has said is designed to connect performance in the field with market results.
The breeding specialist highlighted how seedless watermelons are shaping the category, driven by demand for consistency, ease of consumption, and reliable quality.
”Seedless is More is more than a slogan; it is a clear concept guiding the development of mini watermelons,” the group outlined.
”Hazera’s seedless portfolio is designed to deliver value across the chain all year round, combining strong field performance with the quality and convenience expected by the market.
For growers, it said, this means stable yields and greater profit potential; for retailers, it ensures fruit that holds firmness, appearance, and shelf-life; and for consumers, the focus is on taste, freshness, and convenience.
”Seedless is shaping the future of snacking fruit,” confirmed Michal Taraska, global value chain lead at Hazera.
Hazera’s mini seedless portfolio, developed across regions such as Brazil and Costa Rica and exported to the EU, includes varieties like Exceed, Expert, Extazy, Lynx, Excelsior, and others.
These varieties combine consistent quality, strong shelf-life, and dependable performance under different growing conditions, the company continued.
The Central American season has now concluded, creating an opportunity to gather feedback from growers and further strengthen future development.
“Hazera’s watermelon performance in the fields gives us confidence and certainty,” said one Guatemalan producer.
”We know we will achieve high yields and excellent quality. That’s what we’ve seen with varieties like Extazy, and now with newer materials like Exceed.
”They deliver high Brix, great flavour, and attractive colour,” the producer confirmed. ”In addition, the thick rind supports transport and post-harvest handling.
”Overall, this translates into very good quality in personal-size watermelons.”
Looking ahead, the Brazilian season is about to begin in June.
Hazera said that growers are preparing ”with high expectations”, with the group’s seedless varieties set to play a central role in their plans for the coming season.
“The 3N watermelon season is approaching here in Brazil, and the demand for Hazera materials continues to be the preferred choice among export-oriented growers,” pointed out Cardoso Marcelo, technical sales consultant at HM Clause Brazil.
”Hazera products meet all international market requirements, demonstrating that the quality and safety of them have already become a tradition among Brazilian producers.”
The company highlighted Extazy as a flagship variety within the portfolio, commenting on its long shelf-life, uniformity, and deep red internal colour, as well as its combination of stability in the field and market appeal.
“Hazera focuses on high-performance varieties, such as Extazy, along with high seed health quality and quality control, to provide satisfaction to our customers,” added Yoav Levy, regional product manager for Cucurbits at Hazera.
