The eco-friendly vessels, each featuring over 1,000 reefer plugs, will be the largest container ships in Seatrade’s fleet and are scheduled for delivery from 2027 onwards.

Seatrade has confirmed the order of the first two vessels in what it has called a ”groundbreaking” new series of 2,800 TEU high-reefer container ships at Huanghai Shipyard in Shandong Province, China.

Described as state-of-the-art, eco-friendly vessels, they will each feature over 1,000 reefer plugs and represent the largest container vessels ordered by Seatrade to date, with deliveries set for 2027 onwards.

”Building on a strong relationship with Huanghai Shipyard, these new vessels will join an existing series of ten 1,800 TEU vessels,” a statement from chairman Yntze Buitenwerf confirmed.

The group said that the newly ordered 2,800 TEU vessels will play a key role in reinforcing its Fast, Direct & Dedicated concept, ensuring shorter delivery times, reduced indirect costs, and enhanced flexibility.

In addition to the two firm orders, Seatrade has reserved options for six further vessels in the same class, with the timing of further declarations aligned to customer demand and market conditions.

”Seatrade continues to explore further fleet expansion opportunities, including newbuilds, modern secondhand tonnage and strategic partnerships with customer groups and like-minded operators in the high-reefer segment,” Buitenwerf noted.

“We look forward to the opportunities this next chapter brings and to strengthening our role as a driving force in global reefer logistics.”
