The prices of avocados, oranges and lemons all fell this week in Argentina, giving consumers some respite after major price hikes over the last year.
Recent data from the country’s Ministry of Agriculture has revealed that avocado prices dropped by an average of 12 per cent last week, in the wake of two weeks of sustained price rises, according to the Santiago Times.
Lemon and orange prices in supermarkets also fell by an average of 10 per cent, while street market prices for courgettes and kiwifruit also dropped by 38 per cent and 16 per cent respectively.
According to Argentina’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), avocado prices have rocketed by 151 per cent compared with last year, as price inflation takes hold in the country.
The newspaper reported that supermarket prices for onions, sweet peppers and kiwifruit had all risen by an average of 21 per cent, 16 per cent and 15 per cent respectively.
