A strike by workers at Chile’s Port of San Antonio that threatened to disrupt fruit exports has ended after a deal was struck with operator Puerto Central over shift patterns and other working conditions.
The Maritime Port Workers’ Federation of Costanera Espigón (Fetraportces), which began its latest indefinite walkout on Saturday, said a deal was reached late yesterday afternoon. Fetraportces president Diego Silva claimed 90 per cent of the union’s demands had been met, including bonuses for night shifts and the provision of buses to ferry workers to and from the port.
