Ashdod

Volumes handled at the Israeli port of Ashdod in the first quarter of 2011 were up by 14.3 per cent compared with the year-earlier period, according to the port.

Ashdod handled 297,289 TEU in the first quarter compared with 260,159 TEU last year.

Also for the first quarter, the port handled a total of 4.9m tonnes, an increase of some 4.6 per cent over last year's 4.7m tonnes.

Productivity has also improved, according to the port, from 21.7 TEU per hour in the first quarter of 2010 to 23.7 TEU per hour this year.
