Lineage, which operates the world’s largest network of refrigerated warehouse facilities, has broken ground on an expansion at its fully automated coldstorage warehouse in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands.

The group said the investment underscored its “continued commitment” to strategic growth in Europe, and would strengthen a longstanding relationship with its anchor customer, the potato products marketer Lamb Weston.

Once completed in 2026, the fully automated expansion is expected to increase capacity by 40 per cent, bringing the facility’s total storage to more than 250,000 pallet positions, and making it one of Lineage’s largest facilities worldwide.

The expansion is also set to incorporate advanced energy features, including Breeam Excellent certification, rooftop solar panels, and on-site battery storage to extend the use of renewable energy and reduce environmental impact.

“At Bergen op Zoom, we are delivering the automation, efficiency, and connectivity that Lamb Weston and our broader European customer base rely on to serve their markets with confidence,” said Sean Vanderelzen, president of Lineage Europe.

“This facility highlights our ability to meet customer demand with flexibility, scale and speed, and we sincerely thank Lamb Weston for its continued collaboration and trust in Lineage to deliver on this important expansion.”
