Prepared fruit supplier PrepWorld has recalled several fruit pots listed in six retailers across the UK and Republic of Ireland after testing identified Salmonella in apple and kiwifruit slices.

Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Morrisons, Asda and M&S have all been named in the recall notice, published on 23 June, by the UK and Irish Food Standards Agency (FSA) websites.

Tesco had the most products recalled, with four lines affected including a ‘fruit kebab’, followed by Sainsbury’s and M&S with three lines each.

Pink Lady apple, kiwifruit, orange, melon, grapes, mango and soft fruit was among the prepared produce included in the recalled pots. All products had a ’use by’ date of 23 or 24 June.

The notice states that products have been recalled due to “the possible presence of Salmonella in the products listed above” and was issued in “abundance of caution” by PrepWorld, after routine testing discovered the bacteria.

Salmonella poisoning can cause severe health symptoms including fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

Shoppers have been advised to avoid eating any of the listed products and return them to store for a full refund.

Morrisons declined to comment on the recall. All other affected retailers and PrepWorld were contacted but had not responded by the time of publication.
