During Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Dutch cooperative Growers United and and UK-based startup TerraChange Solar signed a letter of intent to jointly explore the potential of TCS’ transparent solar panel technology for the greenhouse sector.

TerraChange Solar has developed an organic solar panel that absorbs certain wavelengths on the solar spectrum in a controlled manner, while allowing others to pass through to the crop.

The application also reduces heat radiation, which cools the crops.

Through this collaboration, the companies are aiming to gain insights into the value of the technology in greenhouse applications, including opportunities in energy generation and climate control, as well as to evaluate its practical relevance for growers.

The first steps and initial trials will take place within the Growers United Research Center.

If results are positive, they said, the collaboration will work towards broader implementation and scaling up for Growers United’s producers.

”The letter of intent marks the starting point for further development and follow-up agreements between the parties,” the groups stated.
