Freshfel Europe has named Frédéric Rosseneu as its new president, following a vote at its annual assembly.

Rosseneu, who works at Belgian multinational Greenyard as group sustainability director, spent around eight years as an employee of the association before he joined Greenyard in late 2014.

He takes over from Oranfrizer-Unifrutti marketing manager Salvo Laudani, who steps down after four years in the role.

During its AGM, held in Sicily, Freshfel members also voted to appoint Richard Schouten of Dutch group GroentenFruit Huis and José-Antonio García Fernández of Spanish citrus trade body Ailimpo as its new vice-presidents.

Anders Lind, head of procurement at retail company Coop Trading, takes on the role of treasurer.

At a special event held to mark 25 years since the founding of Freshfel Europe, Laudani and Rosseneu were joined by the association’s first president Kai Krasemann (Fruchthansa, Germany), as well as other former presidents Pino Calcagni (Besana Group, Italy) and Stephan Weist (Rewe, Germany).

Alongside them, as he has been since its inception, was Freshfel’s general delegate Philippe Binard. “The future will be positive if we can increase consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables,” he commented. “We still have a lot of things in our roadmap, which is why we are launching our new manifesto so we can move forward together. One portion more means an extra 15mn tonnes.”
