Greenhouse tech specialist Kubo says it has built two large-scale production sites for strawberries – one in Canada, the other in Saudi Arabia – in recent months as it continues to develop its semi-closed model Ultra-Clima combined with an emission-free CO₂ dosing strategy.

The new approach to berry production, which uses a semi-open model with screen filters and controlled airflow that reduces the need for chemical crop protection against pests, is said to be attracting lots of international interest.

Kubo operates two trial greenhouses, where new cultivation methods, innovations, and strategies are tested in practice.

“This allows us to show growers which solutions are truly valuable and how they align with specific market conditions,” the group stated. “Whether it’s strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, or other crops, the insights from our test centres are directly applicable to commercial cultivation worldwide.”

A recently established strawberry trial aims to develop knowledge that helps growers improve their production.

“This includes higher yields, better product quality, testing different varieties and substrate types, and developing robust cultivation strategies under diverse climate conditions.”
