Nick Chambers, head of global market development at Danish company 4XRobots, says the fresh produce business has now reached a tipping point when it comes to robotics.
Why? Well, as he explains in this latest edition of the Fresh Ideas Show, the need for greater efficiency and sustainability has grown considerably in the face of rising costs and an increasing lack of available labour – especially in areas where maintaining sufficient local supply of fresh fruit and vegetables is a priority.
To help suppliers meet that challenge, 4XRobots has developed a new line of so-called ‘collaborative’ robots that can operate safely alongside human workers on packing lines without the need for safety fencing, which can add to the expense.
This episode is brought to you by Dole, the number one name in global fresh produce.
